Description

This FRSM ultra high precision resistor series from VFR is tested to EEE-INST-002 and MIL-PRF-55342, specifically for space and military applications. The 303261 series offers a resistance range between 100Ω and 2kΩ, in a small 0603 surface-mount package with wrap-around terminations. These resistors utilise VFR’s newest Z-1 Bulk Metal® foil resistor technology for improved load life stability (up to 25ppm) and higher working temperatures (balanced temperature characteristics over a range from -55°C to +150°C). They have nominal temperature coefficients of resistance of ±0.2ppm/°C typical between -55°C to +125°C (+25°C reference) with tolerances available down to ±0.01% between 250Ω and 2kΩ.

  • Ultra-high precision wrap-around bulk foil chip resistor
  • EEE-INST-002 and MIL-PRF-55342 tested for space and military applications
  • Available in any resistance between 100Ω and 2kΩ
  • 0603 package
  • Tolerances as low as ±0.01% over the resistance range of 250Ω up to 2kΩ
  • Power coefficient “ΔR due to self-heating” of 5ppm at rated power
  • TCR as low as ±0.2ppm/°C between -55° and +125°C, +25°C ref.
  • Voltage rating 14V
  • Power rating of 0.05W at +70°C
  • Load life stability of ±0.02% after 2000h at 70°C at rated power
  • Thermal stabilization time <1s (nominal value achieved within 10ppm of steady-state value)
  • Electrostatic discharge (EDS) of at least to 25kV
  • Short time overload of ≤0.005% typical
  • Rise time as low as 1ns, effectively no ringing
  • Current noise of <0.010µVRMS/V of applied voltage (<-40dB)
  • Non-hot spot design
  • Terminal finishes available: tin/lead alloy

Non-standard technical requirements such as resistance outside of the standard range, higher temperature application up to 240°C or better performance characteristics are available upon request. Please contact us for further information and availability.

VIDEOS
Bulk Metal® Foil Resistors

Bulk Metal® Foil resistors, developed by Dr. Felix Zandman in 1962, are the gold standard for the electronic industry. With essentially zero TCR, zero PCR and extremely robust construction, they are the logical choice for all applications requiring unquestioned reliability and stability.

Resistor Stability Put to the Test (Demo Video)

In this video, host Richard Zuratt from VPG puts the stability of the three major resistor technologies — foil, thin, and thick film — to the test. Each resistor type is subjected to an overload pulse and its change in resistance value is recorded. Due to the homogeneous nature of the VPG Bulk Metal® Foil resistor, it is the only of the three to experience no change from the high power pulse. This demonstrated performance makes foil resistors the technology of choice for critical applications where long-term stability and survivability are paramount.

A head to head comparison of the survival rates of precision thin film nichrome (NiCr) resistors versus VFR Bulk Metal Foil resistors in a high humidity environment.

All resistors that are based on nichrome, which is a category that includes both thin film devices and Bulk Metal Foil resistors, are susceptible to electro-chemical corrosion or etching when placed in a high humidity environment and powered with a very low wattage. But since the nichrome element of a Bulk Metal Foil resistor is hundreds of times thicker than the element in a thin film device with the same value, it will last much longer under these conditions. This video shows the actual etching process and survival times for thin film and foil nichrome resistive elements as they are tested in 100% humidity conditions.
