The BAN series from Isabellenhütte is an ISA-WELD® precision resistor built as a shunt with tinned terminals, offered in a resistance value of 25µΩ manufactured to 5% tolerance. Working alongside engineering teams measuring current at the high end of the range, we supply it in five versions that share the same resistance and power rating and differ in temperature coefficient and plating, so the version you specify follows from the accuracy your measurement needs.
Isabellenhütte publishes three uses for the range. The first is as a current sensor for EBM, meaning Electronic Battery Management, in motorcars, trucks, hybrid vehicles and high voltage electric vehicles. The other two are current sensing in busbars and current sensing in welding equipment.
The resistance value is 25µΩ, manufactured to a tolerance of 5%. At that value the series carries a continuous current load of up to 1200A and a permanent power of up to 36W; the datasheet gives a power rating of 36W at a terminal temperature of 140°C for every version. Internal heat resistance is 0.8K/W and thermal EMF is below 1µV/K for ZERANIN®30. The range also carries a high pulse power rating, with maximum pulse energy and pulse power for continuous operation at a terminal temperature of 140°C plotted against pulse width in the datasheet.
Temperature coefficient is the reason to choose between the five versions; it is quoted for the range 20°C to 60°C because the resistance against temperature curve is not a linear function. The figures below are measured with an overlap area against the connected busbars of 20mm by W and straight current flow over the busbars.
| Version | Temperature coefficient | Plating | Partial plating |
|---|---|---|---|
| BAN-Z-L025-V01-5.0 | 50±50ppm/K | Ni+Sn | Not applicable |
| BAN-Z-L025-V02-5.0 | 50±50ppm/K | Ni+Sn | Not applicable |
| BAN-Z-L025-V10-5.0 | 50±50ppm/K | Ni+Sn | Not applicable |
| BAN-Z-L025-V03-5.0 | 0±50ppm/K | Ni+Sn | Not applicable |
| BAN-Z-L025-V07-5.0 | 0±20ppm/K | Not applicable | Ni+Sn |
The 50±50ppm/K figure is measured from the copper edge. All five versions share the 25µΩ value, the 0.8K/W internal heat resistance and the 36W rating at 140°C, so the choice narrows to how tightly the value has to hold and whether you need the partially plated version. Isabellenhütte notes that further versions are available on request.
The applicable temperature range runs from -40°C to +170°C. After 2,000 hours of continuous operation at nominal load at the maximum temperature, Isabellenhütte specifies a maximum resistance drift of less than 0.5% where that maximum temperature is 140°C and less than 1.0% where it is 170°C, so the derating you apply and the drift you can expect are published together rather than left to be inferred. The datasheet carries a power derating curve against terminal temperature for both stability figures.
The series is AEC-Q200 qualified and the datasheet carries the RoHS mark. Nickel-tin plating is available; the version table above records which versions carry it as plating and which as partial plating.
